Strong thunderstorms knock out power for more than 1,700 in county (2)

An active spurt of intense thunderstorms continued to impact Cherokee County Sunday night, and as of 6:36 a.m. Monday 1,723 customers of both Oncor and Cherokee County Electric CO-OP had no electricity.

Of the 946 Oncor accounts that were without power, 736 were concentrated in Rusk.

According to Cherokee County Electric CO-OP’s online outage map, 777 outages were reported, with 246 of those affecting people living between New Summerfield and Reklaw.

About 75 customers in Dialville were in the dark as well.

While neither utility provider indicated an estimated time of restoration, both stated that crews are out in the field working to reconnected services as quickly as safely possible.
