The 20 best art museums in Columbus (2024)

The Otherworld museum is an amazing immersive art exhibit with surreal scenes and video game technology. It's made up of a variety of different art forms, including neon lights, lasers, sculptures, and nature scenes. The exhibits are well-maintained and perfect for families with well-behaved kids.

This place is a very cool different style of museums. Wasn't very crowded when we went. Masked were required. Each room has a different color, smell, temperature and vibe to it... They have hide away areas where you can hang out if you can find them. Kid friendly but wouldn't recommend bringing them at night. Parking is free. Small gift shop at exit.

It is an absolutely wonderful experience. A little pricey for tickets, but worth it in my opinion. There are so many different rooms with amazing art, puzzles, and interactive objects. We took our 5 year old and he was amazed. There are crawl spaces, tunnels, and hidden areas. Lots of beautiful art. And fun little places to just sit and take it all in. Every room has different lights, sounds, smells, and textures to amuse all the senses. They also have antibacterial stations to clean your hands throughout. Cute little gift shop and bar area with drinks and snacks. They also host after hours events that look amazing as well. We all had a wonderful time and will be back!

Location: It is very convenient location, it is located inside a big old shopping mall, don’t have to worry about finding a parking space. There are many spots available and free parking.Price: It’s definitely on the pricey side, this should cost about $25 (that would be fair) but it is $30+, I paid $63 for two peopleInside: It was a great experience, you see many rooms and each one with a very well thought out theme. I enjoyed how the rooms were connected through a big open wall or small hole under the bed. Whoever designed this place, put a lot of creativity and uniqueness.Overall, even with the high price point, it was a great experience.

I'll be honest I had no idea what to expect when we got here but it was so very interesting and so very hard to describe. There is so much to see and take in. They have some really cool unique art and sculpture creations. I would definitely recommend checking it out if your in the area. It functions like a maze on the inside with lots of interconnected rooms and tunnels. It took us about 2 hours to see everything walking at a slow pace.My only real issue was that they have lots of sanitizer stations but most don't actually work, other than that it was an amazing experience.

Our first clue about how interesting this place would be, was driving into an abandoned strip mall to get there. Definitely set the mood.First off, this is not an inexpensive spot (I believe we paid $30 each). Combined with the experience itself, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under 10.That being said, it is a very interesting exhibit (I don't know any other word to use). It is interactive modern art at its best. There is also a puzzle to solve, but we found that to be more frustrating than fun. My advice is to go to simply enjoy the experience, without the headache of trying to solve the puzzle (we couldn't get it and left frustrated).Words can't really describe it, but I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area and enjoy strange and unusual experiences.

Otherworld was such a fun experience! The rooms are done beautifully and we definitely could’ve spent all day in there trying to solve the puzzles. We did end up solving one!It took us about two hours to explore the entire building and rooms

A cool, beautiful, interactive, cerebral experience . Each room offers a different experience for each guest. And you will find yourself reacting and drawn to specific rooms. The little Cafe is great as well as the gift shop. The employees were all very kind and helpful. I very much appreciated the cool and dark atmosphere. I found it perfect in every way. Some people say it's not for children. No, it's not a playground, it's rooms full of individuals art expressions. (I don't believe you would allow your children to run screaming through an art gallery or a museum. I could be wrong.) All forms of art are subjective. I can appreciate their work, talent and time taken to display and share their work. I hope they continue and expand!

It was definitely worth the 3 hour drive. There is so many rooms. The tunnels and lights hanging were the best. There is many things to interactive with. Its not just a walk through. It took about an hour with just my sister. If you bring kids or a group of friends it would probably take longer.Take the trip!!

Like. What? What did I just experience. This place is. Insane! I live about 3 hours away and saw this on Tiktok and literally planned an entire day trip to Columbus, OH to see this. I have ZERO regrets. This place is bizarre and fantastical in every good way possible. We probably spent about 3 hours there and didn't dive into too many puzzles but get the sense you could spend all DAY there solving puzzles that are all interconnected. It is so fun exploring with no instructions or maps, however you want. Everything is connected and in many ways, including quite a few small tunnels (sometimes hidden) to crawl through! Every room feels so different and unique, I love all the neon lights and mirror sections and of course the favorites I think were the mushroom room and the main large tree room. You MUST COME HERE honestly with any age range I think and worth driving 2 to 4 hours (in fact I already feel like I want to go back)! *Online tickets only for $25/person.

Always a great time. I love how kid friendly it is. My son enjoyed it. I wish there was less people when we went because I feel like nobody ever wants to share exhibits but it's whatever. We went right when it opened on a Monday and it was still busy so I can't even say there is a good time to go.

Kia T — Google review

Very entertaining. This is a very interesting interactive art exhibit of mammoth proportions. This won't be for everybody. That being said while I'm not a real fan of modern art. This place peaked my interests and held them. This is light art at its best. Themed rooms with incredible imaginative exciting exhibits. I would recommend it if your in the area. Its not inexpensive but I would say it's worth the price of admission.

The place was a lot of fun to bring my daughter. She had a blast going through the secret passageways and I enjoyed chasing after her so I didn't lose her. The place is wonderful, unique artwork and it is a sight to see. The only reason I'm giving it 4 out of five is the fact that it is a little pricey.

Nathan G — Google review

Truly a fun and amazing time, so many rooms and just got lost in everything. It's a fun fully interactive art park what more could you need. Go here with some friends and have a new experience and maybe even solve some puzzles . Safe, comfortable, inviting and friendly staff. Place was a great temp and was able to just enjoy my time with no worry.

MrBiz 3 — Google review

Went with our two teens. It was really neat and they enjoyed it (and we did as well) but it only took about an hour to an hour and a half to get through. Some interactive puzzles and lots of crawl spaces to check out! It's in a run down strip mall with huge potholes in the parking lot.

A.N. W — Google review

This is not for adults whatsoever. It's for kids. With that said, it's a maze of odd and different themed rooms. All lit in an array of colors. It's cute for children maybe 3-11. It's not very big and in a strip mall that is so deteriorated, it appears to be the only tenant in the location. It's $30 for an adult so...... I honestly couldn't wait to leave. It got boring quickly. Maybe immediately. The staff that day were very friendly and helpful.

I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in. It’s located in an abandoned shopping center, which set the tone as a little sketchy to begin with. It’s definitely weird and gives Stranger Things meets Alice in Wonderland vibes. Lots of moving lights, carpet, and interactive things. It’s definitely unique and something new to see all all different angles, sometimes what it first appears to be, is different when you see it in larger scale. They do offer hand sanitizing stations throughout, which is good, especially if you are conscious of germs. I do think that it could be a little much for younger children, especially if they are easily frightened. There were a couple spots my 10 & 12 year old boys were hesitant on entering. (Just the unknown, not that they were physically scared) Overall it was fine for a 1 time visit. We completed it about 30 min; but for $86 (1 adult and 2 kids) I wouldn’t say the money was worth the time

i drove from dayton just to go here and let me tell you, it was totally worth it! they use a time ticket system to ensure that it’s never overly crowded so you can fully enjoy your experience. i had an awesome time walking around and discovering everything this place had to offer. the level of detail encourages interaction and i love it! i would love to go back in a few months because they’re constantly adding new rooms.

We drove 2 1/2 hours to experience Otherworld. I was told that the experience takes 1 to 3 hours depending on how much you explore. My wife and I love to explore so we were excited. We went through everything multiple times to make sure we didn't miss anything. We clocked in our visit at 45 minutes and feeling very underwhelmed. I wish there was a lot more to see and experience, but it honestly feels like a cheap cash grab. Neat art and displays. Some of it looked really cheap, while others looked very interesting and cared for.If you go, I hope you like it, but it simply wasn't for us.

Devin S — Google review

Me and my daughter spent a good five hours wondering other world! Every turn we found cool new places to explore and hidden games! I definitely recommend coming here for photo shoots! Super cool experience!

Christina Z — Google review

We came here after going to Cosi, which we were not impressed with. But this place was the icing on the cake and I’m glad we saved the best for last! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The kids go crazy as soon as they see this place! It was so neat and definitely a whole vibe and experience! If you’re in Columbus you need to go here!

Amanda H — Google review

What an awesome experience! It's right in the middle of an abandoned strip mall which makes it even more interesting and random. All of the art in eat room is extremely unique and is fun yet different! My favorite rooms were the ones with mirrors giving a cool optical illusion. There is a puzzle you can solve, but we saw online that it's not really worth it at all. I would just go and be amazed by everything!

Marcus C — Google review

great time as always. the art is amazing the atmosphere is pleasant and easygoing and it's a great place to take kids. I wish they had an audio tour with information on the artists that worked so hard to create all the amazing rooms

Matt D — Google review

Really enjoyed this place. So many interesting themed rooms and no real path to take. Just kinda roam around where you want. A lot of neat and different things appropriate for all ages. Staff were friendly, and if you want a challenge, they have a couple games where you collect clues to unlock things like you are Indiana Jones’s or something.

T. H — Google review

Such an interesting experience. There's so much creativity all bundled together. There are puzzles to solve, but it doesn't exactly come right out and tell you that they're puzzles. You really have to explore to find them. There's a lot touching to activate exhibits, but there's hand sanitizer stations everywhere. The exhibits may change from time to time, their Facebook page has information about it.

Marissa S — Google review

A great experience & you can touch the exhibits! It took about 1.5hrs to see it all with 4 kids ages 10 & under! If you are looking for food options they do not allow food inside but there is a bar area. Restaurants are not close by but 10-15m drive you have all options. It’s located in a run down shopping plaza, which at first doesn’t look great but the building itself is kept up well, many bathrooms, and a small gift shop.

I was so super excited to come here and immerse myself into the "otherworld."I read on the website that they didn't let people in more than 10 to 15 minutes before their time, not true. We showed up an hour ahead of time, thinking we scheduled it earlier. They let us in no problem. Now cool for us, but then you go in to explore, and there are too many people to stop and look or even touch anything. You are being rushed around. Website says you could be in there 1 to 3 hours.... we were in there for 45 minutes. Still cool experience, but I think the traffic flow needs to be controlled a little. Quarters are tight and small, and I got run over a couple of times. For anyone who says if you would have waited till your time, it would have been even busier. The longer we were there, the worse it got. I had more fun at Dave and Busters for about the same price, and I got food.

So fun. A little tip: once you go through the first time, go back out and go through a second time. You will see a lot of things that you missed, find hidden aspects and see a different perspective. Actually touch things to find hidden features! (Hand sanitizer everwhere) A fantastic sensory experience!

Like if Meow Wolf had a little brother. The mystery is not as big as Meow Wolf but it is harder to solve if you don't want to ask the staff for help.If you don't ask for help, I think you could spend a half or whole day here running around the different rooms based on your skill level.

Francilla H — Google review

Really interesting place. Some of the rooms felt underwhelming and the swarm of people made it hard to enjoy looking around. Many just sitting around filling rooms while others rush and push you along. Some even rudely telling you your not understanding the puzzles or exhibits good enough. Definitely recommend going when you know many people won't be there.

Troy K — Google review

It was a neat experience, I'm glad we checked it out. It would be great for kids around 8-10yrs old. My son (15yr old) and I were in and out in like 30min. $60+ for 30min is a little high. We could have stayed but we were able to see everything pretty quickly. We went on a Thursday around 1pm. There were very few people there.

Sarah L — Google review

This experience actually reminds me of Meow Wolf. We went to the one in Denver. They both have a lot of hidden rooms and areas that you can explore. Otherworld is cheaper and way less crowded. Admission is around $30 which is not bad. A little pricey for some. I enjoyed walking through the different areas of art because they’re all different. We spent about an hour and half. Employees were very nice and friendly. Only thing I didn’t like is that this place is isolated from everything else. It would be nice to have some restaurants or other stores next door that you can walk to.

The beautifully lit settings were magical. The decorative ideas were so unique- "monster's paws in a child's bedroom, sea creatures, mirrored walls with colored lit rods, the open mouth complete with dangling uvula. The blank wall you "painted" by touching it with your hands was amazing.

Rebecca T — Google review

What a wonderful random find! I had a blast exploring this place. The amount of creativity and world building is awe-inspiring. Almost every room harbors some level of interactivity and inspires child-like curiosity even out of the most grown people. I wish there were more places like this. Totally worth the money and the time.

We went to the Laser Tag event Other World held tonight and it was beyond amazing. It is an after hours event and we had the entire museum to ourselves. MASSIVE shout out to the Manager, John, who was the sweetest person to all the guests and his PHENOMENAL staff. A+++++ event and highly recommend doing as a group of family and/or friends. The museum in itself is beyond beautiful and I was completely in awe with every exhibit, as there is a completely different theme in each designated area. Thank you for an amazing time!

This place is a lot of fun for all ages. There are so many rooms and twist, turns, and hidden passages that it's hard to keep track of where you have and have not been. I'm sure there are some rooms we missed, but it was still a great time. The main complaint is the number of times we went to go into some small space only to find it occupied by some couple making out our even laying on top of each other. Certainly took away from the experience for others, and not great with little kids around. Might be better on a weekday?

Adam T — Google review

This was my first time visiting! It was a little underwhelming as to what I excepted from pictures online before I arrived. The best part was the tall glow sticks part and the lights/mirror rectangle part.

Andrew D — Google review

This place is so cool. Took my kids for their birthdays and we had so much fun! They ever had a caricature the day we went! It's best to take the kids during the day, during afternoon/later hours is usually when the adults go.

Alyssa S — Google review

Totally worth it! We went there over weekend but the crowd level wasn’t bad because of the allotted time slot tickets. The best thing I liked about this place was there is no right or wrong way. You can literally start from any point and keep entering different rooms in any order and you’ll still be able to cover everything. It was a mix of experiences - psychedelic, wonderland, stranger things, etc but I saw from kids to adults every one enjoying it. Another good thing was sanitizer stations at almost every check point. Must visit!

Spardha G — Google review

Probably the most unique place I have ever visited. It is truly like stepping into another world. So many little hidden things to explore....touch everything! Somethings will trigger certain things to happen, others will make sound or change the lighting. Climb under the video game, crawl through the mouths of strange creatures. It is a wild experience! There is a giftshop at the end of your journey, as well as a place to get drinks.

Charles M — Google review

Otherworld immersive art museum was totally out of this world fun! Definitely a very unique experience! Staff were very personable. Bathrooms were clean. Plenty of parking. The local area was slightly deteriorated and rundown but I still felt safe. I spent about an hour browsing the displays and I felt the money was well spent! I would definitely return again.

Tami L — Google review

My family of four had an amazing time here! This place is so cool and sort of enchanting. It gives Alice in Wonderland. You really need to pay attention or you will miss some of the many hidden doors and passageways. We plan to come back when we have more time. We are almost sure we missed something. With that said.. I took off a star for the pricing. It costs more for the adults to get in when the adults that come with children are really just supervising. The website literally states that children under a certain age need to be accompanied by an adult.$30 per adult for a group of adults is one thing but $30 per adult and then $24 per child AND THEN y’all tack on fee after fee at checkout is almost highway robbery. There is plenty of parking and there is also a small café in there too! Y’all need to talk to someone about all those pot holes in the parking lot though. I believe my rating is fair.

Shelbi S — Google review

It is extremely interesting, with each room being a completely different experience. Only heads up, if you're bringing children, know that the gift shop has some pretty high prices and super cool items for purchase.

Stacey R — Google review

This is a really fun and cool place to visit! I really had a great time with my family. The crowds were not bad since you have to reserve your spot ahead of time. I wish it had more secret passages and real puzzles tho. The gift shop is high on prices, and not very big. We walked all the attractions in about an hour. My biggest con is the guests smoking weed in certain exhibits. Several groups reeked of weed, so it was more than one. I don't care if people do it, but don't do it inside a public place where it inconveniences others. Last thing, several of the interactive attractions are broken. Definitely could use some maintenance. I plan to go again and hope some of these issues are addressed before then. I do feel it is worth a visit!

Keith T — Google review

What an experience!!! It’s an immersive art installation BUT there are hidden puzzle pieces to find throughout that will solve the puzzle in the middle for an awesome light show. This place was just awesome! But tickets online and make sure you are there about 10 mins before your time just in case there’s a line. It is completely self guided and you can stay as long as you like. We were there about 3 hours.
