Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (2024)

One of the selling points of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is the ability to gain Mythic Ranks and become a legendary warrior for whatever cause you decide to support. It was a big part of the Adventure Path it was based on, and it's a big part of the video game as a result.

There are a total of 10 different Mythic Paths to choose from, with some of them being unlockable further in the game than others. They vary so wildly in narrative and powers, and as a result, incentivize you to replay the game to try a new one. But which ones are the most powerful and narratively satisfying?

10 Swarm-that-Walks

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (1)

While this path will be very appealing to anyone who wants to play through possibly the evilest choices in the game, Swarm-that-Walks requires that you give up your party members, sacrifice lots of narrative options, and follow strict build philosophies that only benefit a solo player.

These negatives don't outweigh the path's positives, namely that it looks pretty cool and it can end up being very powerful. Swarm-that-Walks is not a Mythic Path to be taken on your first playthrough, and even if you wanted to, it's very easy to lock yourself out of it without a guide.

9 Devil

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (2)

This is another path that can be a bit of a pain to unlock, but it has some neat goodies once you're there. You can only become a Devil if you have previously taken either the Aeon or Azata Mythic Paths, and in most cases, this will be a downgrade in efficiency.

Apart from its own compelling story, the Devil Mythic Path offers fun mechanics with Hell's Seal and even borrows some aspects of the Angel and Demon paths with Hell's Authority. While it's a fun path to follow, it's not going to be the strongest mechanically.

8 Demon

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (3)

There are a lot of things to like about the Demon. It provides you with more natural attacks, the ability to go into a demonic rage as a Barbarian does, and you can customize your build with various demonic aspects when you gain mythic ranks.

The thing is that unless you're looking for heaps of physical damage, Demon is slightly lackluster. It's incredible at dishing out the pain, and it does have a great narrative attached to it, but there are likely better options for most character builds.

7 Gold Dragon

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (4)

This is the third path that requires some forethought and has some prerequisites. There is no doubting that Gold Dragon grants cool abilities - you get a special Dragon Breath attack, the ability to assume the form of a dragon, and a whole heap of immunities to boot.

However, it falls short when compared to paths that specialize. It's an all-around boost to your stats and capabilities, sure, but you're sacrificing the stellar capstones that you could have had in any of the other Mythic Paths.

6 Trickster

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (5)

If breaking the fourth wall and getting a bit meta is your thing, then the Trickster path will likely be the one for you. It has odd, reality-warping powers that can invalidate entire swathes of the game entertainingly.

One of Trickster's biggest draws is their bag of Mythic Tricks that evoke the various skills you can take ranks in. Some of them lead to exceptionally broken mechanics (such as the infamous "infinite loop shield bash" trick), and one even gives you a Wizard's spellbook!

5 Legend

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (6)

The Legend Mythic Path is your character's way of saying "nope" to all outside influences and becoming a hero in their own right. It involves giving up all of your old powers in exchange for a bonkers new level cap of 40, with experience requirements for leveling up reduced.

This means you can be truly erratic with your builds and create exactly what you want in a character. This is the path you need if you want the most flexibility in exploring Wrath of the Righteous' incredibly flexible class system.

4 Aeon

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (7)

Compared to the other two Law-aligned Mythic Paths (Angel and Devil), Aeon is by far the most associated with cosmic order and righting the wrongs of the universe. It has a very involved narrative that lets you redeem certain characters, such as Staunton Vhane, who will even join your party afterward.

In battle, Aeons benefit greatly from Enforcing Gaze, an aura that provides buffs and nerfs to your party and enemies, respectively, based on the Mythic Abilities you take. They even get the ability to suppress the Mythic powers of their opponents, useful in the tougher fights of the game.

3 Azata

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (8)

Azata is notable for providing you with a whole new companion, Aivu. Thanks to her chirpy personality, they are a fan favorite and a huge draw for the Mythic Path. In addition to that, the buff-centric playstyle of the Azata is a fantastic pairing for classes such as Bard or Cleric.

As far as the narrative goes, Azata is the perfect fit if you have any Chaotic Good tendencies, as this path and its story will embrace that with gusto. This also goes for any Desna worshippers.

2 Lich

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (9)

The Lich Mythic Path is the archetypal evil character, taking the form of a necromancer who raises creatures from the dead and enthralls them. This has a practical use, allowing you to recruit characters unique to this path, and a narrative one, with your companions reacting naturally to your choices.

Liches can merge spellbooks with Wizards, Sorcerers, Witches, and Arcanists, boosting the power of their original spells and the power of their new spells. This alone sets this path above the rest, but its other abilities reward playing to the darker side of the game's choices.

1 Angel

Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous - Ranking The Mythic Paths (10)

In a game that heavily involves a war between Heaven and the underworld's demons, Angel is probably the closest to canon as you can get when picking a Mythic Path. It should be no surprise, then, when it turns out to be incredibly powerful.

Not only can you make a great melee build with the Sword of Heaven buffs and all the Angelic Halo tricks you can learn, but if you are playing as a Cleric, Oracle, Druid, or Witch, you can merge spellbooks and access the Angel's overpowered buffing, and healing spells sooner.
